Bridport and District Citizens Advice calls for more volunteers as cost-of-living pressures continue to bite
Bridport and District Citizens Advice is a local, independent charity that relies on volunteers to provide a comprehensive advice service. Last year the charity helped 2400 people with 8000 separate problems. It can only do this work thanks to its 60 strong team of volunteers. The charity would like to thank all their volunteers for their fantastic work for the local community. Volunteers are needed as the charity continues to face high demand for its services and the charity is launching an appeal for new recruits from all backgrounds who can give their time to help people struggling with energy prices/rising household bills/debt/employment and housing issues. No experience is necessary as full training will be provided. The next adviser training course will start in September. Barry has volunteered for the past 12 years as an adviser in the organisation. He said: “Above all, I enjoy helping people to deal with problems and difficulties in their lives. We make a real difference locally. I have loved learning about so many aspects of modern life and researching ways to advise people on their rights. The work is challenging and stimulating and is made possible by the excellent teamwork of my colleagues. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to do such rewarding work.” As well as volunteers to offer advice to people in person, online or over the phone there are opportunities for people to provide expertise in trustee governance roles, finance or provide administrative, reception or IT support to the charity. Volunteers come from all walks of life and choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. They include students; people getting back into work after career breaks; people with part-time jobs; carers; and people who’ve retired.
Volunteers are often looking to gain valuable experience or to use their existing skills in new ways. Many want to have an impact in their community and find a sense of purpose in helping others. Rovarn Wickremasinghe, Chief Officer at Bridport and District Citizens Advice said:
“Now more than ever, you can really make a difference by volunteering for us. Our frontline advisers are helping huge numbers with their energy bills, budgeting and debts, and sadly we expect this to only continue.” “As well as helping the local community, we know people who volunteer their time get a lot back. Whether it’s working as a team, learning new skills or campaigning on issues close to your heart, there are many fulfilling opportunities available. “We’ll give you all the training you need and would love to hear from you.” To find out more and apply, visit our volunteering page www.bridportca.org.uk or contact us: Email: advice@bridport-cab.org.uk Tel: 01308 456594
