Example cases
In 2023-24 we helped 2409 clients with 8069 separate issues. Many people had money problems and we helped them maximise their income and get the right benefits. In total our advisers raised nearly £1 million in extra income for our clients with £130,000 of debt written off.
Many people we help tell us they have health issues or a disabilty. Last year 56% of the people we helped reported a long-term health problem or disability.
Jenny (not her real name) came to see us because she was worried about claiming Personal Independence Payment. It was a complicated form but our adviser helped Jenny and also ensured that she was claiming all the benefits she was entitled to. Jenny said it was a huge relief to be able to find help to complete the form which she would not have managed to complete on her own.
Martin a 79 year man came to us because his home was too big for his needs and for him to manage. He wanted to find out if he could be re-housed in an older people’s housing scheme. Our adviser talked him though his options had helped Martin work with the council to find accommodation for over 55s. Martin is now able to be confident about his future and ability to live independently.
Many people have more complex problems. We help by listening, seeking solutions, giving advice and as much support as is needed. Our aim is to give confidential and non-judgemental advice to help improve people’s lives. There are some problems we can’t help with. In those situations, we will always try to guide people towards a different service who can help.
